Started by Morgan McRae and Philip Cullin, Headphone developed in the San Diego music scene as players from various recording studios met and began playing together. Several members came and went in the first couple years as the group honed its sound, writing, and recording style. The music itself blends their interests in everything from classical and jazz to electronic and independent rock. The lyrics look at the enigmatic space between connection and detachment, hopefulness and despair. Their intense live performance is fueled by sonic contrast, subtle moods and explosive dynamics.
