Nothing Special is a San Diego band that plays both covers and originals that exemplify the fun spirited nature of ska. Our music typically has elements from surf rock, 2-tone, and third wave ska, though we derive inspiration from many other genres.
We’re an eight-piece band consisting of lead vocalist, trumpet, trombone, saxophone, rhythm and lead guitars, bass and drums. Nothing Special initially started out in 2013 with just the drums and bass. After a few months we reached our current lineup, which by chance was set by a random encounter on a bus.
In this time, we have recorded an EP and performed at venues including: The House of Blues Voodoo Lounge (San Diego), Bar Pink (North Park), 710 Beach Club (Pacific Beach), The Loft (UCSD), Winstons (Ocean Beach). We’re currently focusing on songwriting and performing.
