Curly Karen Schleifer – Singer/Songwriter/Actor/Mentor – Ms. Curly’s credits include being an orphan in the original cast of Broadway’s ANNIE (Kate, u/s Molly). She later performed the title role of Annie at Lincoln Center. Her favorite musical theatre roles include Chiffon in Little Shop of Horrors, Mary Magdalene in Jesus Christ Superstar and performing in the National Tour of Tony & Tina’s Wedding, where she played Donna. After many years of professional theatre, she took her talents to the rock and roll stage. She has performed her musical styling’s at many notable venues which include the Whiskey A Go Go, Room 5, The Hotel Cafe, The Derby, 14 Below and Taix Lounge in Los Angeles and Rockwood Music Hall, The Bowery Electric, The Baggot Inn, Kenny's Castaways, The C-Note, The Duplex, the Alphabet Lounge, Luca Bar, The National Underground and Roses Turn in New York City. She is a producing partner and company member for theatre fofo (L.A.) along side Thomas Dean Kellogg. She also works with Mr. Kellogg in a program he founded called Mentor Artists Playwrights Project (MAPP). Through mentored play writing workshops and community presentations of the work, MAPP gives young people from marginalized communities a creative voice! As a singer/songwriter, Curly is actively performing solo and with her band of merry musicians both in NYC and Los Angeles. Her first album “Only the Ocean” was recently released for digital distribution by Essential Media Group, LLC. (Miami, FL)
She's currently playing with an amazing cover band in the South Bay called Angry Donkey... and with her own band Shotgun Curly - East and West which often includes but is not limited to: Steve Gregoire (Man On Earth), Nathan Riehl, Omar Ruiz (Percussion), Jonas Manashowitz (Drums), Damion Waters (Electric Guitar), Clinton Maxwell (Guitar), Courteney Cuomo (Vox), John Matson (Drums), Jason Hartelius (Guitar, Ukulele), Samantha Korshin (Drums, Perc), Ameenah Kaplan (Drums, Perc) and Billy Goffi (Piano), Omar Ruiz (drums/percussion), Jason Hartelius (various stringed instruments).
Curly is a hometown girl at heart and performs for many fundraisers on Staten Island for her friends and family that have suffered through Sandy, battle MS and other serious illness or hardships. She is also the Operations Director for MAPP - Mentor Artist Playwrights Project.
