Initial Conditions Quartet
Saxophonist and composer David Borgo has performed with his own groups and as a featured soloist throughout the United States, Europe, Asia, and Latin America. He won first prize at the International John Coltrane Festival, earned a PhD in Ethnomusicology from UCLA, and is currently a Professor of Music at UCSD. David has studied and/or performed with many of the greatest jazz musicians, including Herbie Hancock, David Liebman, Billy Higgins, Kenny Burrell, Gerald Wilson, Harold Land, David Baker, George Lewis, Evan Parker, Sam Rivers, John Tchicai, Anthony Davis, and Mark Dresser. David has released eight CDs and one DVD as a leader, and he regularly concertizes with his electro-acoustic duo KaiBorg, his jazz group Initial Conditions, and his world-music-inflected Kronomorfic ensemble. He also enjoys performing jazz standards and original material in more intimate settings with local area professionals, and performing as a solo saxophonist using electronic looping and effects. “Borgo has the history of the music down pat,” writes Frank Rubolino for allaboutjazz. “He touches on the past, teases with the future, but mainly speaks in the present tense.”
